My first YouTube video!: <a href="http://
Galway Atlantaquaria is located in Salthill, just outside Galway City in the west of Ireland. It is only metres from the beach and the sea!
The aquarium mainly showcases marine life found in the Atlantic Ocean. The Ray Pool is the first big tank inside the aquarium. There are southern rays, spotted rays and dogfish surrounding a model of a hooker, an old Irish fishing boat.
The next few tanks are dedicated to anemone, sea horses ad conger eels with interesting information placards on each.
Then there is the harbour tank and a huge two-storey ocean tank.
Upstairs includes canal, stream and weir marine systems as well as a nursery, touch pool and a huge skeleton of a fin whale suspended from the ceiling.
Something else that I found really nice is the so called Galway Atlantaquaria Engineering Trail. This consists of placards with information on the building of aquarium tanks, maintenance of different water temperatures in different tanks and more as well as questions to make you think about what you’re reading.
The aquarium is well laid out with information boards near every tank.
There is fresh water fish feeding, big fish feeding and touch pool tour at various times throughout the day.
There is also a gift shop, aquatic pet shop and café on site.
My favourite spot is the touch tank where you can pick up and learn about starfish, mussels and spider crabs.
